Chatterbox!
Kate's vocabulary is expanding. When she is home and playing she babbles and sings constantly, but when we are out and in a new situation she is still pretty quiet.
On Sunday we went to Disneyland with the Thompsons and we had SO much fun! Before we went I was showing her a picture of Mickey Mouse and she grinned so big and said "Hi Mickey!" We were so excited, of course she got a Mickey at Disneyland! =) We also got her some rubber toy characters and now she is saying "Minnie" too.
Today we were at Babies R Us and they have a whole new setup of Summer Elmo clothes. I brought her over and she said, "Hi Elmo! Hi there!" I almost keeled over with joy. I wanted to buy her something but I know I can't do that EVERY TIME she says something new. I must restrain myself!Comments:Add a comment:

Owies
Kate is getting a little bit braver and letting go a little bit more each day. She can walk a few steps on her own, but she just chooses not to. So, we'll wait for those toddling days and until then, she is still cruising like a champion. She is getting a lot more "owies" these days because she is getting braver. She has smacked her lip twice and drawn blood. Poor Kate! Tonight in the bath she was spazzing out so much she even slipped and her chin and mouth went underwater - I think it freaked her out. I can't stand bathtime, it's so much work and she is so incredibly hyper. I wish Daddy could have that job every night!!!Comments:Add a comment:

Weaned!!!
For a week now, Kate has yet to get a feeding from a bottle. I think it's safe to say that she is weaned! Hooray! My goal was to have it done by her 1st Birthday. However, she is still in the "trainer" sippy cups and not in the full-fledged hard spout sippy cups yet. We have them for her but when we give them, she just throws them on the floor. Oy!
I am really loving my new work schedule. I have worked pretty much one weekend day every week since I started, so Donnie is home with her during that day, and I have her during a weekday. It's been really nice! I am glad to have her out of daycare and with us that one extra day, and I think that "alone time" with each of us is a good thing. Plus - Donnie is such a GREAT "Mr. Mom!" I came home from work on Saturday night and he had cleaned, done all the laundry, and moved furniture around to give Kate her own little corner of toys in the living room. We am so lucky to have him!!!Comments:Add a comment:

Walking!!!
Kate made some first steps tonight! I had an evening hair cut and when I got home she was so excited to see me. I sat down a little bit from Daddy and he stood her up and let go and sure enough, she made a couple of steps on her own! Then we turned her around and she walked to Daddy! We are so excited! Kate's first steps!!!Comments:Tina: Oh my goodness, she's going to be running around at her birthday party!Add a comment:

Hernandez Reunion!
Today we had a reunion with the Hernandezes. It was so much fun! 16 of us went to the Rainforest Cafe in Downtown Disney, and it was an absolute blast. It was so great to see my cousins again. I don't see them often enough! I stay in touch with Steve and PJ on myspace and Sara via email on occasion, but I haven't seen cousin Mike in about 20 years. It was so cool to have everyone together!!!
Tonight Kate had her first bubble bath. She hated it! She poked at the bubbles and cried. I was surprised because she loves it when we blow bubbles for her. Oh well, we can try it later when she's older!
Poor thing still has the allergy on her face. I think it is ezcema triggered by the food allergies. I realized today that the baby food chicken noodle that we have been feeding her for months is made with EGGS. OH NO! My heart sank. I didn't think of that at all. No wonder she is still having allergies! I wonder what other foods she is allergic to that we have accidentally been feeding her. I am really working on making that red spot go away. Wish me luck!Comments:Tina: God bless family! How great that you all got to spend a fun day together. Did you your pass toAdd a comment:

11 months old!
Katelyn Jo is 11 months old today! We are so proud of her. We really have to start weaning her off the bottle now, because our (my?) goal is to have her bottle free by her first birthday. She is trying to communicate so much right now. I had her on my lap today, trying to bribe her to drink her milk from a cup by sitting on my lap, and she drank about half of it. (I am bribing her with letting her watch the Backyardigans too!) I caved and let her have the rest in a bottle and she stayed in my lap watching her cartoon for a few minutes afterwards. After a few minutes, she looked up at me and made the sweetest toothy smile, then she said "down?" and I was so proud of her! I put her down on the floor with her toys and she was so happy.
She is trying to communicate a lot more now. I asked her if she wanted to watch cartoons and she said "bah? bah?" which is Katespeak for Backyardigans. I said, "do you want to watch Backyardigans or Wiggles?" and she pointed at the TV and said "Bah! Bah!" again. I was so impressed!
Kate has also started dancing - constantly! If she hears music or if you sing to her, she starts rocking back and forth. It's pretty funny!
She's so cute. I love her so much!Comments:Add a comment:

Daycare...may be getting better!
I think things are looking up with Kate's daycare. They made a lot of changes last week in her room and it's cleaner and more organized than ever. She only came home with an allergic reaction one day last week, and the teacher was honest with me when I picked her up that she thought Kate may have licked something from the food table. I really appreciated her honesty! Kate did have a rash breakout and an upset tummy that night so at least I knew what happened.
Anyway...we would still prefer to have in-home care, so if anyone knows anyone that may be looking, please feel free to let me know! =)Comments:Add a comment:
