Katelyn Jo...the artist!
Today when I picked her up at school, they had something special to show me...Katelyn fingerpainted! They like to do crafts with the babies, and today they had little paper pumpkins that the babies fingerpainted. It was pretty cute! I'll make sure to take a picture of Kate and her first piece of art and post soon! How funny!
When we got home we were playing with blocks. I noticed that Kate can transfer items from one hand to another. I don't know how long she has been doing it now, but it's another one of those "milestones" I have read about, so of course I'm all excited.
I can't believe she will be 5 months old next week! Only one more month until she can have actual baby food instead of just cereal! We just got her highchair, so we are gearing to go!Comments:Add a comment:

Starting to scoot!!!
This is why her nickname is Scooter...she is really starting to scoot now! When she's on her tummy she lifts her little bootie off the ground and gets up on her knees and wiggles around. She can slither backwards very slowly and she can go in a circle, but she is making MAJOR steps towards crawling now. How on earth is she growing so fast? Anytime we unbuckle her car seat, she puts out her hands and leans up to help us get her out. The funniest thing is, when she leans up, she sticks out her tongue and it looks SO FUNNY!
Watch out world, little Scooter is almost on the move!!!Comments:Tina: Ahhh, those were the days. I remember when Noah just started moving around, too. He was like a compass - he would move around, but could only pivot on his tummy and never went anywhere. HAHA! They do grow up fast...time to have ANOTHER ONE!!! :) The pictures are great!Add a comment:

Mommy & Kate are SICK!
We are so disappointed. On Thursday Kate and Mommy both started getting sick. By Saturday, I was so sick I could barely walk. And today, we were not able to do our 5K Race for the Cure. We are very sad. However, we want to extend our most heartfelt THANK YOUS to everybody that donated your dollars and cents to the cause. It is comforting knowing that no matter what, your donations did go to this wonderful cause. We are so regretful we weren't able to participate in the event, yet are humbled by the generosity of our friends and family. Thank you so much!!!Comments:Tina: ACK!!! We forgot to donate! I'll do that TODAY! Sorry you all are sick...get well soon!Add a comment:

Big girl, stuffy nose!!!
Katelyn sure is showing signs of teething these days. She wants to bite EVERYTHING, she always has her little hands in her mouth, she has a touch of diaper rash, a rash on her cheeks, is suddenly waking up in the middle of the night wanting a pacifier, and she has major nose conjestion. You can see a little white bud on her bottom gums, but you can't see full teeth coming through yet. Yikes!
Today when I went to pick her up at daycare she was laying in a soft little fire truck batting toys around. I walked over to her and she looked at me and smiled so big and held up both of her arms! This was the first time she has held up both arms to be picked up! She has held out one arm on occasion to Daddy, but she's a very smart girl for saving the "two arms" for Mommy! I was sitting with her and the other babies before we left and decided to try to sit her up like a tripod. To my astonishment, it worked for a moment! So it looks like we are on the verge of sitting up too! My how she grows so fast!Comments:Tina: Two arms! Too cute!Add a comment:

A fun Saturday and another first for Kate!
We had such a wonderful day today! Now that Kate is taking a bottle I have so much more freedom! I took care of her for her 7am feeding and played with her until it was time to put her back to bed - and I went back to bed too! Then when she woke up for her 10am feeding, Daddy took over! He fed, played with her and put her back to sleep - and MOMMY GOT TO SLEEP IN FOR THE FIRST TIME SINCE BEFORE SHE WAS BORN! It was soooo wonderful!!!!! (You really do take sleep for granted before you have a baby, it's so true!)
After I finally got some rest, we decided to go to Disneyland. We put Kate facing forward in the baby carrier for the first time, and she LOVED it! She has never been happier! Next time, hopefully we can stay for Fantasmic!Comments:Add a comment:

A very worthy cause!
The Banister Family will be in this year's Race for the Cure in honor of Grandma Vera. As you know, Grandma Vera was diagnosed with breast cancer in October 2004 and found the battle with cancer long and hard. It took her home with the Lord in September 2006. We are very blessed to have known her and be loved by her. We miss her every day.
It is our prayer that with events such as these, we can find a cure and prevention for breast cancer for ours and future generations.
You can join us in the fight by pledging in support of our participation in the Race or by signing up and racing with us!
It is fast and easy to support this great cause- you can make a donation on our personal donation pages at the bottom of this message.
Whatever you can give will make a difference in the lives of many. We truly appreciate your generosity!
Traci's page is located at: http://ocraceforthecure.kintera.org/tracibanister
Donnie's donation page is located at: http://ocraceforthecure.kintera.org/donniebanister
May God bless you every day!

~ The Banisters ~Comments:Tina: Go, Team Banister! We have plans that day, so we won't be able to join you. But Team Thompson will be sponsoring for sure.Add a comment:

Kate is saying MAMA!
I have been working with her, saying Mama and Dada all the time, and she is now saying Mama! I know she doesn't mean it, she is most likely just imitating sound at this point, but it sure is cool! She has said it a couple times that I have heard...when I picked her up at school on Tuesday, when she has tummytime, and tonight when she was in her crib and fussing herself to sleep! I can't wait for someone else to hear it so I have "proof"!!!! Until I have a witness, it doesn't count yet!Comments:Add a comment:

Kate is doing great!
She seems to like her daycare! When I take her in the mornings and am filling out the paperwork and checking her in, she just wants me to put her down. There is so much for her to play with, and the caregivers are really nice to her. They love her hair, and they told me at the end of her first day that she is really cuddly! They pick her up and she puts her head on their shoulders and nuzzles them. What a sweetie! She took both of her bottles yesterday, but today she didn't take them again. So I guess it's hit and miss. Let's hope she gets regular on them...Mommy's got a business trip to go on next week! Currently, she is so close that I can go over mid-day and feed her really quick. I went over there yesterday and fed her and played with her and went back to work - I had only been gone 45 minutes! Isn't that great!?!?! =)Comments:sara: YA!

My last day as a stay at home Mommy.
What an amazing four months this has been. I have been so very blessed to have been able to stay at home with Kate for so long! Tomorrow - September 10th - I return to work! I will really miss her and miss Stroller Strides a lot too! I have to keep working out daily so I can keep losing this "Katie weight"!!! (I have lost 33 pounds so far, but I still have 33 to go - I'm exactly halfway there!)
The timing is pretty good though, because this week she got a lot tougher to take care of! This little girl does NOT stay still! We used to be able to put her on her back on a blanket with some toys and she'd play and kick and be happy. But not anymore! Now she rolls and rolls and rolls and she keeps hitting her head on the coffee table, or rolling underneath the coffee table. Ugh! She is also able to "creep" now to get things, which means that too soon she will be crawling. My, how this new house got small FAST!
I really like her daycare facility though. So that makes the transition easier as well. There is a webcam and it's a security building, and its really close to my office and our house. All of the caregivers are really sweet too, and all the babies there seem SO HAPPY! That makes me feel a lot better - knowing she is in good hands. I sure am going to enjoy this last day with her!!! Pray for me on Monday!Comments:Amanda: Good Luck! We'll be thinking about you! Everything will workout great!Add a comment:

Kate's first trip to San Diego!
Today we went to San Diego with our The Brauns, in town from Denver! It was really nice to walk around and enjoy the weather and hang out. Kate got to meet Baby Ashton too! Ashton is 2 months older than Kate and he is SO CUTE!!! They sure did have fun together. Kate said she'll take him as one of her boyfriends. She sure has a lot of boyfriends!!!Comments:Add a comment:

Let's hope this sticks!!!
Kate actually had 2 ounces from a bottle today. What an answer to prayer! I am stressing out because I go back to work on Monday and I really need her to eat from a bottle so I don't have to worry about feeding her during the day! Luckily her daycare is only ONE MILE from my office, so if I have to go over once or twice a day it's not that big of a deal...but I would much prefer for her to be more independent!
Pray for this little girl to keep drinking from a bottle!!! We need Mommy to return to work, worry-free!!!!!!!!Comments:Add a comment:

Kate's first Labor Day Weekend!
What an exciting Labor Day weekend we had! First Auntie Stacey came to town from Arizona, we love seeing Auntie Stacey! Kate got to meet baby Allison too! On Sunday we had Kate's first earthquake! The three of us were laying down for a nap when the house starting shaking really hard. Daddy & I opened our eyes and I said "EARTHQUAKE!" since I knew it was the first one he felt too! We both jumped up and I grabbed the baby and ran downstairs to be near the front door in case a bigger one was coming. Thankfully that was all! Just a reminder that we need to be prepared in case we have a big one!
On Monday Kate had her first 5K! We did the 5K in Rancho Santa Margarita and were on "Team Stroller Strides". It was super FUN, even though it felt over a hundred degrees by 7am! Kate pretty much slept through the whole thing. Daddy was really proud of Mommy's "jogging skills" too - Stroller Strides has made her a lot better!Comments:Add a comment:

Kate's newest accomplishments!
I can't believe this week she will be 4 months old. How has time gone by so fast??? She has some new accomplishments this week. Now she laughs so HARD, it's really funny. She rakes with her hands to grab things, and she is getting really good at sucking her thumb. When we put her to bed at night she is always in the middle of the mattress towards the top of her crib. By morning she is all the way at the bottom of the crib and squished up against the bumper. (I am so GLAD we got a "breathable bumper"!!!) However, sometimes she likes to surprise us by doing a 180 in her crib so she is totally upside down and trying to kick her mobile by the time we get to her in the morning. She also likes to examine her hands - she stares and stares at them while opening and closing and moving them around. I think she's learning that she makes them move, and yes - they are attached to her! She sure is funny!Comments:Add a comment:
