We had such a fun weekend!

First Grama Vicki and Auntie Emma came down for the weekend. Donnie and I were going to go out for our 1-year anniversary, but because Kate still won't take a bottle, we made it a "family event" and just had a casual dinner and evening together instead. They spent the night, and on Sunday the girls took Kate to the mall for the first time - she slept the whole time! After they went back home, the Banisters went to church on Sunday night with the Thompsons, and then they had us at their house for a DELICIOUS dinner afterwards. Kate and Noah got to spend some time together, and he was REALLY SWEET to her! He even gave her an adorable kiss!

We had a great weekend! I can't believe it's already our 1-year anniversary!!!!!!!!!

Kate is generally a happy baby, but she sure has her likes and dislikes!

It's so neat to watch her personality develop, and to see her learn and like new things every day. First let's start with the good stuff: she loves her Baby Einstein play mat, and her vibrating bouncy rainforest chair. She loves tummy time, and is getting better and holding her head up for longer periods. By no means is her neck strong yet - but it's getting a little stronger every day!

On the other hand, when she hates something, she HATES it! Like her carseat...when she is in her carseat she screams bloody murder. If there are two of us in the car, we are at the point that one of us MUST be in the back with her at all times to try to keep her calm. If I am on my own - GOOD LUCK MOMMY! Today in a 45 minute span, I had to pull over the car TWICE and take her out of the seat and calm her down before I could keep driving. Ugh!

Now the bottle-battle. That is another ordeal altogether. Katelyn REFUSES to drink from a bottle. We have tried all different methods, Donnie giving her, me giving her, cuddling her, distracting her, me leaving the room - she just screams and refuses to eat. We have tried FOUR different bottles and nipples - again, she screams and refuses to eat. I try all afternoon with her, and Donnie tries every night. SHE REFUSES TO DRINK from a bottle! It's so frustrating! Today I went to Babies R Us and got three other kinds of bottles...hopefully one will work, say a prayer and wish me luck!!! (And if anyone has any tips we haven't thought of, please let me know! I am getting desperate because I can't leave her with a sitter until she can eat without me - YIKES!)

    Comments:
Brittany Stubblefield:  Here's a tip.... go to babies r us and buy a nipple sheild. Theyre usually used for inverted nipples, or during mastisis or something like that. But you just place it over your nipple and the baby eats from you that way. Do that a few times a day (not all of the time) and it will get her used to the feel of what the bottle nipples feel like in her mouth and will still relate it to you. Then try to give her the bottle (have Donnie do it first, and if she refuses to take it from him then you try), but it might help. Just be sure not to get her attached to the sheild too much because you dont want to wean her off of that too. Hope it helps and good luck! Like I said, I understand where youre coming from.... really try hard to get her to take the bottle for your own sanity!

    Little Kate is growing!

Today at the doctor's office, they weighed, measured and gave her shots! Her weight is currently 10 pounds, 3 ounces (55%), height is 21 1/2 inches (50%), and head is 15 (50%). I am so proud of my little baby...she is getting so big! When we were there she had just woken up and was in a really good mood, and then the shots came. It was so sad to see her face change from smiling and baby talking, to horror, to an absolute scream. I saw little tears in her eyes, it was so sad! But she came through like a champion, even SLEPT on the ride home and now she has her baby Tylenol and seems to be a little lethargic, but okay. Phew! She survived her first shots!

    Comments:
Brittany:  Awwww.... poor KJ. How did mommy handle the shots? I cried just as much as my little one did at her shots. Im glad shes doing so well though! Also, really try hard to get her on a bottle... I slacked and cadence NEVER took one! It was mommy until she was one.... ahhhh! Worth it but ahhhhh.... definently doing it this time around. Good luck!

Katelyn has had so many milestones lately!

In the last week, she rolled over on her tummy four times! That's not many, but it's a lot for such a little baby! I have no idea where she is getting this strength from!

She has stopped vomiting with morning feedings (yaay!) and seems to be putting on weight! Her doc appt is tomorrow morning, I can't wait to see how much she officially weighs!

She is still having trouble taking a bottle. I successfully got her to eat one whole bottle on Saturday and have tried every day, multiple times a day since, but to no avail. She needs to get used to a bottle so we can start getting her babysat! Mommy can't be there always...poor baby!

Her rash is getting LOTS BETTER! She still likes to find ways to rub and scratch her face, so we still have to battle that...but her rash is pretty much gone! We have been washing her hair every day with a Mustela wash made for cradle cap, and washing her face, and the cradle cap is getting so much better! Yaay! I was worried about the poor darling feeling yukky!

She still hates her carseat and riding in the car. Anytime we go anywhere as a family, one of us has to sit in the back with her, and anytime I drive alone with her I have to pull the car over to calm her down, because she just screams and screams...she really hates riding in the car! I really hope she grows out of this FAST!

    Comments:
Tina:  Glad the rash is clearing up. :) Aw, poor little thing...I wonder why she hates the car seat so much? Can't wait to hear how much she weighs, too!

I had to take Katelyn to the doctor today!

She has had a red rash on her face the last few weeks which we thought is baby acne - which is really common. Yesterday evening I noticed that it was spreading to her scalp, back, shoulders and chest. Also, it seemed to be itchy, as Kate was trying to scratch her face with her little hands and rub it into my shoulder.

Kate's doc is on vacation right now, so we got to see another doctor, who was really nice. She thinks it might be "seborrheic dermatitis" which is basically cradle cap. Poor Katelyn! We go back on Monday for her next regular appt. Hopefully we can get this under control and less itchy for our little angel!

    Comments:
Tina:  Cradle cap...ugh. Remember Noah had it for soooo long. He still has eczema, but it's almost gone now! Hang in there, she will have soft baby skin again soon.

    Diaper Graduation!

It's official - Katelyn is no longer in the "newborn" diapers anymore. I am so sad! The cutest, teeniest little diapers are no longer! After two diaper spills, we tried out the size 1 diaper instead of the Newborn diaper - and even though it's quite large, it fits her!

She is getting so big, so fast!

It's been a long time since an update!

We had the Yanceys (Aunt Jessie, Uncle Jake and Cousin Kenzie) here from Colorado on Memorial weekend, and we had a great time! Katelyn even went to the beach and the park for the first time!

The first week in June, we went up to Thousand Oaks to be with Aunt Emma and Uncle Griffin while Grama Vicki and Grampa Brad went on a trip to Florida. We got to play with the WII, and Katelyn even got her own little character...it looks just like her!

It's been a busy time! Hopefully this weekend we'll get to take Kate to church for the first time! Now I am on a hunt for a new place to live. Wish me luck!!!! We have until June 22nd to find a place, or we're stuck here for another year!
